Praxis II Phase 1: Request for Proposal

My praxis II design experience can be broken up into two distinct phases: The request for proposal (RFP) phaseand the solution phase. This section will show the RFP phase, to access the solution phase, click here.

This phase involves the identification of a community within the greater toronto area and the writing of a request for proposal, which proposes the need for an engineering solution for an unadressed problem this community faces, along with engineering requirements for this solution. Taking part of this project allowed me to improve on the two stages of my design process: Understanding the problem and Establishing Requirements.

Our group chose the community of foundry workers who use vibrational power tools, and as result, suffer from hand arm vibration syndrome. The RFP can be downloaded from the top right corner of this page. Most of this phase was spent conducting research and interacting with stakeholders to accomplish the following:

1. Understand the nature of the problem and its causes

2. Justify the existence of the problem and argue the urgency for its solution

3. Establish requirements based on research and stakeholder interaction

This project gave me a lot of firsthand experience with stakeholder interaction. Additionally, it allowed me to develop my ability to research and establish requirements, and therefore it also allowed me to improve my design process.
